Meet Your Coach
Hey there! My name’s Fett. Yep, just one name: Fett (it’s a long story). I’m a music producer and audio engineer by trade, and co-owner of Azalea Music Group in Nashville. I’ve been involved in music in one way or another for more than 50 years (40 of them professionally), so I’ve had the good fortune of getting to see the music industry from a lot of different perspectives.
Like most music people, I’ve been a musician and songwriter for much of my life, but in addition, I’ve had a keen interest in all things audio and music technology since a very young age. As a result, I’ve been a studio owner, journalist and Technology Editor for the prestigious Performing Songwriter magazine, author of the popular book, “Fett’s Mixing Roadmap: A Guide To Mixing Music In the Studio”, and recording/mixing engineer for a #1 album (Australian artist Jason Owen’s Friday Night). I’m also the founder of Empowering Women In Audio, an organization that teaches in-person music production clinics specifically to women.
I’ve been teaching about production and music technology for more than 30 years, for the Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI), TAXI, Broadjam, the SAE Institute, Belmont University and other organizations. That led to a natural expansion into coaching, and in 2012, I received my Holistic Coaching Certification from the Radiant Health Institute, an internationally-renowned coaching academy based in Nashville. Since then, I’ve coached and mentored recording musicians and aspiring producer/engineers from all over the world, from Nashville to Australia.
I like to refer to my coaching style as “The 3 M’s” which means that I serve as a Mentor, a Mirror, and a Motivator for your music pursuits. Since I’ve “been around a while” in the music industry, my clients tend to skew towards the 50-and-over range, but I’ve coached and mentored clients as young as 16. As long as you’re serious and willing to roll up your sleeves and do the work, there’s a good chance we can work together.
